Life has a learning curve. Every new activity requires new skills.
Babies encounter a tremendous learning curve. They learn to crawl, feed themselves, walk, learn a language and figure out how to tie their shoes. Our learning curve continues throughout school and starts to level off in college. In many cases, the learning curve comes to a screeching halt upon acquiring our first job.
It is astounding how many people never read a book after high school. Of the number who even start reading, a significant percentage never progress beyond the first chapter. To add insult to injury, most of them are proud of the fact that they do not read.
The average CEO in America earns 439 times the income of the average hourly employee. The typical CEO reads at least 4 books a month. Even though the only difference between the CEO and the hourly employee is not just the number of books they read, it is a significant factor. CEO’s continue on the learning curve. They are constantly improving themselves.
If you tour the historic homes of Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Edison and any other historic icon, you will find a library. Leaders are readers. Leaders continue on the learning curve throughout their entire life.
Most metropolitan areas include at least one institution of continuing education. Now with the addition of the internet, access to online universities abounds. Continuing education becomes easier and easier with each passing innovation of technology. No legitimate excuses exist for stalling out on the learning curve. Ah, but you say, “There isn’t any money for classes.” Public libraries are free and even the library card is free.
“No time,” you cry. How much time do you spend watching television? Situation comedies on television add nothing to your education.
How much time do you spend commuting to and from work? Use your car as a rolling university. Yes, libraries even have educational cd’s available.
If you truly desire a turning point in your life and your finances, get back on the learning curve.
Single and seeking a companion? Why not meet someone else who is raising their awareness; seek a companion who desires to make progress with their life. You will be more interesting to them if you are expanding your learning curve. They will be more interesting to you they are moving their life onward and upward.
Opportunities abound for the ambitious person who expands their learning curve. By contrast, zero positive opportunities are afforded to the person who stops learning, growing and advancing mentally.
Children are encouraged to attend classes, do their homework and succeed in school. What is the magic age where people stop caring and growing? Leaders continue to learn and grow. Leaders prosper.
Your turning point in life starts the day you jump back into the learning curve with a vengeance. Being persistent and consistent with the improvement of your learning curve yields positive results in every aspect of your life.

Enjoy---In Joy
Truly enjoying your life and your career brings a sense of peace, fulfillment and productivity. Tap in to your feelings and energy level as you conduct your daily activities. Emotions relate closely to your energy level.
Watch closely which activities you are performing when you feel so excited and vibrant that time rushes by without your awareness. Which activities are you engaged in when you become so engrossed that your energy level soars and your productivity escalates? These actions and activities reveal your special talents and interests; these specific activities relate to your genius. Now don’t get all flustered and think that “genius” means on a level with Einstein.
Every person has a special talent, a special gift. Each one of you has some special ability that you do better than anyone else. Yes, you! When you tap in to what you enjoy, you discover the emotion of being “in joy.” Everyone exhibits more productivity and more energy when they are working in their “genius.”
Step back and think for a moment. Are there some things you do which bring you so much pleasure that you feel as if you could keep doing that one specific activity for hours? Are there other acts which seem to drain the very life from you? Paying close attention to your energy level, productivity level, and emotions reveal your gifts.
How many of you right now feel that you are using your most productive talents and abilities in your work or career? I separated work and career because work frequently means a necessary act in order to put food on your table and pay the rent. Career on the other hand means an endeavor where you not only earn a living but feel fulfilled and productive. Going to a “job” means work to the large majority of people throughout the world. Having a career which lights a fire in your soul and makes you feel the emotion and excitement of a child on Christmas morning is the goal of the top ten percent. Only the top one percent actually experiences that feeling on a daily basis. Top three percent leaders and entrepreneurs truly live that experience on a very regular basis.
I feel very blessed to love my life and my career. No, it was not always that enjoyable. I have experienced several different employment situations and even a few different entrepreneurial endeavors which did not generate enjoyment. Being able to truly love what you do for a living and know that it not only brings value to others but also makes your spirit come alive, is truly a treat to your soul. Add the element of making an excellent living in the process and you have a winning combination.
Closely examine your life. Does your current income producing activity delight you or simply pay the bills. Ouch – even worse if it does not even pay the bills. There is an answer for you. Hope truly exists.
When the uneasiness of stepping out of your comfort zone, the “known zone” even though it is far from comfortable, looms less scary than the dream burning in your soul then you will take action.
Search your heart. Search your emotions. Search your energy. Revive your dreams.
Decide! Is where you are right now where you choose to stay for the remainder of your life? When the urge to fulfill your dream and your destiny becomes more powerful than your “known zone” you will achieve the thrill of emotional fulfillment, productivity and the realization of being able to enjoy life. You will be” in joy.”

Leaders Are Dealers in Hope
Neither Winston Churchill nor Franklin D. Roosevelt were the greatest leaders in history; however, they both inspired their nations in a dark period of stress.
Winston Churchill gave hope to all England during the battle of Britain in the Second World War. As Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, he was noted for his fiery speeches. As an acclaimed orator, his speeches became a great inspiration to the British people and embattled Allied forces. He breathed hope into a troubled nation and a world at war.
Franklin D. Roosevelt gave hope to America during the great depression of the 1930s. FDR’s combination of optimism and economic activism is credited with keeping the American economic crisis from developing into a political crisis. He is the only United States President elected to more than two terms of office. More than any of his executive orders or legislative policies pushed through Congress, he gave America hope when hope was the only possession some citizens had left.
Leaders are dealers in hope.
Once again America is in the clutches of an economic crisis. Honesty requires that we term it as at least a recession and some have dared to use the d word – depression. The good news that permeates every entrepreneur’s heart and soul is the absolute knowing that the only way to fail is to quit. True entrepreneurs are leaders and dealers in hope. A true entrepreneur and leader never quits; instead a leader will change a strategy and attack the problem from a different direction. Leaders and entrepreneurs have a solid basis of hope and knowing that success is closer than others envision.
As a leader and entrepreneur, I’ve changed directions and re-invented myself more than a few times. Giving up and losing hope was never an option. Despite health issues, financial losses and personal relationship collapses, hope always triumphed.
Loss of hope frequently precedes loss of life. Hope kept people alive in concentration camps, wars and economic turmoil. Hope is the magic ingredient which powers people to reach goals the faint hearted would never dare to dream.
John C. Maxwell wrote the following in his book “Think on These Things.”
“What does hope do for humanity?
Hope shines brightest when the hour is darkest.
Hope motivates when discouragement comes.
Hope energizes when the body is tired.
Hope sweetens while the bitterness bites.
Hope sings when all melodies are gone.
Hope believes when the evidence is eliminated.
Hope listens for answers when no one is talking.
Hope climbs over obstacles when no one is helping.
Hope endures hardship when no one is caring.
Hope smiles confidently when no one is laughing.
Hope reaches for answers when no one is asking.
Hope presses toward victory when no one is encouraging.
Hope dares to give when no one is sharing.
Hope brings the victory when no one is winning.”
