Firm Decisions Win

“Decisions are easy when your values are clear.”

You can’t steal second base with your foot firmly planted on first. Once you make affirm decisions, the forces of the universe seem to move to make things happen.

Living in Steamboat Springs Ski Resort for 29 years and loving the skiing, the people and the healthy life style provided a wonderful comfortable life. “Hi, saw your corvette at the gym today. Still working out every day?” Baby (the corvette) receives waves and smiles where ever she goes. Oh, the locals are quite friendly to her owner as well. Steamboat represents such a warm, friendly atmosphere that it becomes impossible for Baby or her owner to go anywhere on any day or at any time of day incognito.

The thought “move to Castle Rock” reoccurred night after night. “I don’t know anyone in Castle Rock. I’m comfortable here. I can’t afford to buy another house. This is a lousy time to apply for a new loan,” she protested. Finally in utter frustration to stop the persistent dream, she placed an ad to rent her mountain home. Immediate and excellent response from eleven qualified rental candidates. Well meaning realtor friends cautioned, “Don’t ask more than 2,000 per month because anyone with more than 2,000 per month will buy not rent.” She selected a delightful young professional couple with one small child. She interviewed them at he home and at their home. Great housekeepers. Very personable and excellent references. They agreed on 3,000 per month and signed the rental contract.

Once a firm decision was made, everything started to fall into place. She called a Castle Rock realtor and explained exactly the size, location and price of the home she desired. “Oh, and it has to close and be ready to move in within 30 days.” The realtor laughed, “That is four impossible things. What do you want me to do,” he complained. “Start looking,” she replied. Within thirty days she was moved in to that exact home.

Once a firm decision is made, the universe seems to spring into action to make all the pieces slip into place in the puzzle. The key is always to make a firm decision. You can not move forward with your feet implanted in concrete in the past. Forward thinking and forward motion require remaining light on your feet and ready to spring forward.

“Audacity augments courage; hesitation, fear,” Publilius Syrus. Once you make an iron clad, no turning back, decision, the wheels of progress start turning.

The key to forward motion is always a firm decision. When you know exactly what you want and are acting in total integrity, you will receive blessings beyond your wildest dreams. Jim Rohn, noted business philosopher, often said that when riches start flowing to you, they will flow in such abundance that you wonder where they have been hiding all these years.

“We can try to avoid making choices by doing nothing, but even that is a decision,” Gary Collins. Without a firm decision you will wander aimlessly. With a firm decision you will progress. If you make a decision, you control your future. If you choose to do nothing, you are by default giving the control of your life to someone else.

A wise person seeks counsel to assist in making a wise decision, but a wise person never avoids making a decision out of fear of failure. Nothing moves forward without a firm decision. If you would like assistance in sorting through your options to make a wise decision, join me at www.Elaine4Success.com. It is your life, decide wisely.

3 Solutions For Success

A fresh approach changes the direction of your results. “Think like a man of action, act like a man of thought,” Henri Louis Bergson.

Everyone reaches a point in life where they feel stuck. The creativity does not flow and the spirit is restless. Wayne Dyer, world renowned author, lecturer and philosopher, once said that it is impossible to be depressed and active at the same time. The greatest cure for being stuck, restless or depressed is always action. Go do something. Write, read, walk, bake cookies or clean the garage. Go do something.

Better yet, when you are restless and discontent with your current situation, go do something wonderful for someone else. Doing something good for someone else not only makes them feel better but it also improves your attitude.

When your results are not progressing the way you desire, the 3 areas to investigate are:

Attitude
Philosophy
Activity

Your attitude reflects your perspective toward a situation. It is how you feel about the events in your life. A positive attitude will always help you do more than a negative attitude.

"A 'positive attitude' is definitely one of the keys to success. My definition of a positive attitude is a simple one: Looking for the good in all circumstances. Catherine Pulsifer

Your attitude reflects in everything you do whether you realize it or not. Your attitude about yourself, your work and your life in general projects into everything you say and do. When things are not going your way, look inside rather than outside.

Your philosophy is your pursuit of knowledge through study and self discipline. Jim Rohn was 25 when he realized that the problem with his finances was not the economy, the government, the taxes or any external force but his philosophy of life. He changed his philosophy and began disciplining himself to study successful people. He read “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill and “The Richest Man in Babylon” by George Clason. He adopted their philosophy of handling money, business and forward thinking mindset. This subtle change in philosophy created a major shift in his earnings and the way he managed his money.

Philosophy quotes can be very obtuse and vague. Oscar Wilde said it best, “I am so clever that sometimes I don’t understand a single word of what I m saying.” One of my favorites of Oscar Wilde is “I can stand brute force, but brute reason is quite unbearable. There is something unfair about its use. It is hitting below the intellect.”

Break philosophy down into simple terms. Change your perspective about a situation; study and develop a new view of life. According to Wayne Dyer, when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at will change. This is philosophy 101.

Once you change your attitude to reflect more of the positive approach and change your philosophy to study and gain new perspective, your activity will automatically change.

Get in the habit every night of making a list of five things to move your business. Let your subconscious work on the solutions while you sleep. Be absolutely certain to complete your five major action steps every day. Every activity must move you closer to your goal.

Decide with pin point accuracy your exact goals. Know precisely what you consider as success: personal, professional, and financial. Focus every activity each day with laser beam accuracy toward the achievement of those goals.

With a crystal clear philosophy, a positive attitude and laser focused accuracy in all of your activities, it would be impossible to miss your goals.

When your life stalls out or misses its target, reassess your attitude, philosophy and accuracy. Changing one or a combination of those three factors will turn your life upward.

Savor the Taste of Success

Every disciplined effort yields multiple results.

When you are knee deep in the swamp with alligators nipping at you from all directions, it is difficult to remember that your purpose was to drain the swamp.

Each disciplined effort provides a snowball effect. Each one builds on the next until the desired outcome materializes. In the meantime, reach back into your memory banks and recall one or more of your most treasured success feelings. Feeling is the operative word. People respond to feelings more than logic. Recapture that feeling of exhilaration when you achieved a major goal. Internalize that feeling so well that you can recall it at a moment’s notice. Knowing how to celebrate your success and potential helps with the times when things are not going as well as you desire.

Everyone has down times emotionally and financially. Allowing yourself to wallow in self pity never creates a positive outcome. Reach back into prior success and recapture that positive feeling.

Create new software for your self talk and the language you use to others. Broke sales people reek of the scent of failure. Your thoughts, feelings and attitudes reflect in your words and vibrations. It is imperative that you internalize feelings of success.

Positive self talk always focuses on “I can,” “I am,” “I am in the process of,” “I earn,” I will,” and “I have achieved and I will again.” Set your goals and focus on each one as already accomplished. Attach the feeling of success to each goal. Visualize the goals as already accomplished and savor the feeling you will have with that accomplishment. Feel the success and experience it with all five senses. Put a picture of the success as if it is already achieved front and center. Keep your focus on the goal and wading through the temporary swamp will feel so much easier.

Success is ten percent inspiration and ninety percent perspiration. As Jim Rohn, noted business philosopher, was told when he was 25, “lack of money is not the problem. Lack of an idea to create money is the problem.” Focus on your natural creativity and discover that idea. If you already have the idea, then focus on the positive achievement.

The bigger the idea, the longer you will need to develop it, shape it and bring it to fruition. Little ideas only need a helicopter pad; here it comes and there it goes. Test your ideas on paper until you are clear, and then test it on other like-minded, progressive thinkers. They may offer tweaks which will speed your progress.

Never give up on yourself and a well thought out idea. Keep shaping and molding the thought until it yields positive results. Hold on to the positive feelings of success every step of the journey. Believe in yourself and your dream.

Why invest the time and effort in yourself and your dream?

You strengthen your character
You stay focused on results
You make better decisions
You build self confidence
You heighten your awareness
You create excitement
You enjoy and achieve your potential

Write five compelling reasons why you will never give up on yourself and your dreams. If your “why” is not big enough, your “what” will not matter.

Remez Sasson said, “People with a positive frame of mind think about possibilities, growth, expansion and success. They expect happiness, health, love and good relationships.”

Savor the feeling of success. Be able to internalize that ecstasy at a moment’s notice. Attitude is not just a state of mind; it is a reflection of what you value. You will succeed. Remain consistent, persistent and focused on your future.

Live Your Dreams

During the hustle of the holiday season, people forget to stop and be grateful for our advantages. I am firmly grounded in my faith and yet I also fail to totally appreciate what I have at my fingertips.

Water flows freely here. We think nothing of long showers, running the dishwasher instead of hand washing dishes, watering plants or even watering the lawn in summer. There are people living in many parts of the world who do not even have clean water to drink and we are wasting water on a daily basis.

Holiday parties abound. In America we celebrate with numerous baked goods, special appetizers, dinner parties and lavish cocktail parties. We purchase special beverages and salute friends and family with a cup of holiday cheer. There are people in other parts of the world and probably some right here in our own country who go to bed hungry every night.

If we disagree with the government, we are totally free to express those opinions. No one restricts the books we read, the news printed or spoken, or our own individual speech. We are free to act and speak openly, provided we are not slandering the rights of others.

I live in Colorado where the typical winter temperature requires warm coats. No problem, we have the wardrobe which is appropriate for the temperature. We heat our homes in the winter and cool them in the summer. We are so very fortunate.

When the bills arrive or the income does not quite stretch to do all of the things we desire, it is easy to complain “poor me.” Nothing could be further from reality. In comparison to other parts of the world, we are still living in luxury.

Most American families have at least one car. Instead of being grateful for that car, it is not uncommon to hear someone fuss about the price of the gasoline.

During this holiday season, my focus centers on the blessings in my life. I have plenty to eat, warm clothes to wear, a roof over my head, a nice car to drive and wonderful friends all around me. Yesterday I shoveled the drive for my Toastmasters group to arrive; I am thankful for my health and ability to shovel.

When someone around you starts complaining, gently remind them of the number of blessings we enjoy every day. Gratitude deserves expression more than once or twice a year. Start by saying thank you to your family. Taking the time and effort to genuinely thank the people close to you for all the little things they do for you every day, makes them feel appreciated and makes you happier as well.

One of my favorite quotes reads, “You simply will not be the same person two months from now after consciously giving thanks each day for the abundance that exists in your life. And you will have set in motion an ancient spiritual law: the more you have and are grateful for, the more will be given you,” by Sarah Ban Breathnach ~ Simple Abundance.

I start and end every day with gratitude for the many blessings in my life. Focusing on the things for which you are grateful rather than the things you may lack, provides more peace in your soul. A grateful person continues to be a more desirable companion as well. Whiny, complaining people simply are not fun to be around. Jim Rohn, an icon in personal development, reminded us that there are people with whom you can spend an hour, but not a day. Other people whose company you may keep for a day but not a week. Associations and the attitudes of our associates does influence us. We guard the playmates of our children but neglect to use the same stringent rules for our own associations. Spend your energy being grateful for your life; associate with people who are also grateful for their lives. Gratitude is important. We have so much for which to be thankful.

Gratitude for my Life

Education Opens Doors

Throughout my youth, I always heard ‘get a good education, get a good job and work hard.” In my case, the inference was a good high school education. My father believed there was no point educating a female beyond high school because she would not amount to anything anyway. He insisted his son attend college.

Fortunately for me, I had other ideas. Long story, short version, I not only graduated from college with honors but proceeded to earn masters degrees. No blame or “feel sorry for me” inferred. He passed along what he learned from the old country and from his parents. Even though I was a bit miffed at the time, I quickly devised a solution. The point of impact is that just because something was true several generations ago does not mean it remains valid today. Women hold prominent positions in industry and all professions in the 21st century.

Education served to change my life in numerous ways. My degrees opened doors for me which might have remained closed without those pieces of paper. Like education, talent also opens doors. Celine Dion’s talent captivated producer David Foster’s attention enough for David to invite Celine to sign a record contract. Talent opened the door.

I lived in Steamboat Springs ski resort for 29 years. In that period of time I became acquainted with scores of talented and highly educated individuals who were working as lift operators and restaurant or bar employees. Neither education nor talent alone propels anyone through life’s hoops and hurdles. Education proves to be a valuable asset. Talent attracts attention. Both of these elements assist a person; however, neither or both are enough to achieve the pinnacle of success.

Getting the door open with a degree or talent constitutes step one. Once that door opens even a small crack, persistence and passion must take the reins and drive. An impressive resume may entice a prospective employer to grant an interview. Unless you demonstrate desire and command of yourself and your professed skills, employment will not result. When you present yourself in a credible manner and your skills match their need, you may be hired. Now the work begins.

Many an employee has been the victim of their own bad judgment. Acting as if the duties or your fellow workers are beneath you causes tension and discord. The fault is not the duties, the employees or even the company. Look squarely in the mirror and view the problem. Education and talent open doors but bad decisions close doors.

Even though I jumped through many hoops and climbed over numerous obstacles to pay for my own college, once the degree is earned, it is totally up to me. Education becomes more than shelf development, buying books; true education requires implementation. In order to receive the full value of education, there must be self development. Jim Rohn, noted business philosopher, admonished us to “work harder on yourself than you do on your business.” Shelf development may impress visitors to your library, but life seeks evidence of self development.

Developing your education or talent into usable skills creates the true platform for achievement. Work hard on yourself and your skills. Maintain a congenial and cooperative attitude in the process and you will thrive. Education and talent may open the doors for you but once you step over the threshold, your attitude and performance take control. Many talented and well educated people fail to survive or thrive because they stopped learning, stopped growing and maintained a disagreeable attitude.

Education and talent open doors but lack of performance, bad attitudes and bad decisions close those doors. You control your present and your future. Anything you created in the past can begin its improvement in the present. Just as my father held old beliefs about educating women, so other people hold on to old beliefs and attitudes which no longer serve them or anyone else. They may hold old erroneous beliefs because they did not know any differently. Now you know. Your excuse evaporated. If your attitude and performance are not serving you profitably and productively, stop doing that and change to something which will work. Good attitudes and diligent work overcome a multitude of other deficiencies.

Education and talent open the doors but your passion, persistence, great attitude and diligent performance swing them wide open.

Mentor and Mentee

Mentor encompasses not only something you do but also who you are. Every successful person has a mentor. Having a mentor does not necessarily mean sitting down with someone face to face, even though such contact proves very valuable. Your mentor may or may not even be aware of your relationship with them. Jim Rohn has served as my mentor for many years. I listen to his audio programs, read his books and attend his live performances. He travels with me in my car, inspires me while I do my daily exercise and even provides my bedtime story. Jim Rohn served as my inspiration and mentor without him even being aware of his impact on my life.

A mentor can be through books or audio as Jim Rohn, Tony Robbins and Dr Wayne Dyer are to me. Mentors can provide live interaction as my Toastmasters speech coaches do for me. Attending live seminars such as those presented by Dan Kennedy ( GKIC NoBS Colorado) or Jeff Combs (More Heart Than Talent) are extremely valuable. Your mentor may have lived in a prior period of time such as Napoleon Hill or Wallace Wattles. They still provide extremely valuable mentoring.

A mentor provides guidance, experience and wisdom. The top three percent of leaders possess three basic strengths.

The strength of leadership
The strength of self mastery
The strength of relationship

The strength of relationship directly relates to mentoring. Just as every successful person has at least one mentor, they also have the responsibility of mentoring their followers. One of the requirements of being accepted into my team is the agreement to assist newer members. Once a team member consistently earns over ten thousand dollars per month they must begin mentoring the newer team members to assist them in reaching that income goal. Passing along wisdom and shortening the learning curve establishes and promotes leadership skills.

Darin Hardy, publisher of Success magazine, visited his father’s mentor Mr. Abe. The elderly gentleman, Mr. Abe, was one of nine children born into abject poverty. He had worked very hard and amassed an incredible fortune; his financial statement served as his success scorecard. On this last day before he passed away, he spoke with Darin and Darin’s father about the many triumphs of his life. As Darin was leaving, Mr. Abe called him back into the room and grasped Darin’s arm. With a stern look on his face, Mr. Abe exclaimed to Darin, “Don’t miss the point like I did. I finally realize the most important thing in life is relationships. The most important things in life can never be recorded on a balance sheet. Don’t miss the point like I did.”
Mentorship and relationship travel hand in hand. The true value in life flows through accumulating wisdom and knowledge and then imparting that wisdom and knowledge to others. None of us are an island and none of us have either the time or the necessity to reinvent the wheel. We each learn for each other.

Select your mentors carefully. They will be shaping not only your life but the lives of those you mentor. The old saying “Birds of a feather flock together” depicts the fact that you will become similar to the people you have chosen to mentor you. We watch carefully the playmates of our children because we know the characteristics of their friends will influence them. How careful are you about the people with whom you choose to associate? Like it or not, they are influencing you and thereby mentoring you.

Grow and Prosper

You can not grow within and stand still in your life. Your personal life, financial life and business life absolutely prosper when you focus on your personal development. Jim Rohn, noted business philosopher, always declared the importance of working harder on yourself than you do on your business.

A major key to living a successful life centers around personal development. Throughout my life whenever I encountered a difficult situation, the cause was always related to my attitude. My feelings about a given situation or the people involved determined the outward results. Negative emotions or feeling out of control about anything in my life invariably led to a negative result. Blaming someone, including yourself, produces negative results. Playing the blame game never produces a positive result. For instance when you are lying awake at night tossing and turning and seething with angry thoughts, the other person sleeps peacefully. In many cases, the object of your distress may not even know a problem exists.

Somehow, even though it may feel difficult, search for the good in every event in your life. A job loss may feel like the end of the world for awhile. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and examine your options. Record numbers of people are starting their own home based business right now. Before their employment status changed, it felt safer to stay with the job even though they were unhappy than to look for something new. The job status change necessitated investigating new options. Sometimes what seems to be devastating at the moment results in a wonderful future.

Jeff’s franchise business collapsed leaving him with over a quarter million of personal debt. After starting his home based business, he paid off the debt and started earning a profit within less than a year. If the franchise had not folded, he would have continued working long hours and he would have remained in the bondage of debt for many years. The end of the franchise terrified him for awhile but later proved to be a blessing in his financial and personal life.

Attitude about the situation makes a tremendous difference. Your internal attitude about an event largely controls the outcome. Examine your emotions and beliefs. Somewhere deep within your mental programming lies the cause of many of your problems as well as the solution. Grow as a person through each event in your life. Do an intense self examination to discover the possible causes which led to the event.

1. Did your childhood programming set a negative tone regarding your deservability of becoming financially successful?

2. How focused were you in the performance of your job or business?

3. How dedicated were you to learning and implementing new ideas in your work?

4. What was your attitude at and about your work?

5. How long did you persevere before you ended the business or job?

How much time and focus do you dedicate on a daily basis toward your personal development? How many books have you read recently on personal development? What cd’s have you listened to in order to expand your thoughts in a positive direction?

When was the last time you masterminded with another positive minded individual? When was the last time you attended a live seminar or even watched a mind expanding DVD? When was the last time you meditated on how to improve your life? What positive affirmations do you write and speak daily?

Growing personally will assist you in growing professionally. Growing as a person improves every aspect of your life. People choose to be around you when you profess and exude a positive attitude.

Richest Man

“The Richest Man in Babylon” by George S. Clason reminds us that we each have talents and abilities which can be enhanced to produce wealth. Everyone has a special talent which will produce prosperity when properly implemented. “Beloved by millions, this timeless classic holds the key to all you desire and everything you wish to accomplish. This is the book that reveals the secret to personal wealth” is the quote from the back cover of the book.

Especially in this troubled economy, people are searching for the secrets to acquiring money, keeping that money and making their current money earn more. This book reveals those eagerly sought after secrets. One of those secrets is learning more about how money works. Education remains a timeless asset in every situation. Jim Rohn, noted business philosopher, frequently cautions us that “change does not start with inspiration, it starts with education.” Educate yourself on the business principles involved in obtaining wealth.

As a child growing up in Kansas, I frequently heard the expression “money does not grow on trees.” Well no, not technically. At this point in the American and in fact the entire world economy, we are all on fiat currency. Since fiat currency means that the paper money we carry is not backed by the gold standard or any other precious tangible metal, it is simply paper backed by the good faith and credit of the United States government. Ouch! That is not a comforting thought as I watch Franklin, Grant, Jackson, Hamilton, Lincoln and Washington all cringe as they are squeezed into smaller and smaller value. Sorry guys. Which brings up another point – why are there only pictures of men on our paper currency?

With the shrinking dollar and the pressing need for additional income throughout United States and the world, reading a book like “The Richest Man in Babylon” becomes even more important. In fact Jim Rohn’s mentor Earl Shoaff, recommended Jim start his library immediately. The two books Earl Shoaff recommended for Jim to read were “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill and “The Richest Man in Babylon” by George Clason. Look what those books did for Jim Rohn. They started his journey taking him from a seriously in debt 25 year old to a multi millionaire. That kind of progress certainly inspires me. How about you?

Jim Rohn reminds us that going to get those books and read them is an easy thing to do; however, it is also easy not to do. How seriously do you desire to improve your education and financial situation?

I have coached many people from flat line finances or even red line (in accounting terms that is more debt than cash to pay it) to wealth. Reading “The Richest Man in Babylon” is step one. Step two is to contact me and let me assist you in furthering your finances and your education. We will work together to design the plan for your future.

Either you design a plan for your future or by default; someone else will design the plan. Who do you believe knows more about what you truly desire for your life – you or someone else? My belief is that you either know exactly what your goals are now or you will know after we spend some time talking together.

Massive Action

Warren Buffett did not become wealthy by investing the loose change in his pocket. Bill Gates created Microsoft by daring to dream big goals. Walt Disney did not visualize one amusement ride. Olympic athletes do not spend time at the gym casually visiting and half heartedly doing one or two exercises.

Every successful person takes massive action. Dare to dream big goals, choose to design a massive action plan to achieve those goals and commit to implementing that plan today. Regardless of whether your dream is making money online with a home based business or a franchise or a brick and mortar business, the business principles are identical. Every successful person and every successful business followed exactly the same formula.

Start by having a heart to heart talk with yourself. What do you passionately desire to achieve? The key words are ”you passionately desire to achieve.” Your goal must light your soul on fire with an all consuming passionate desire. Selecting a goal which you think you should choose or one that someone else chooses for you creates a disaster in the long term.

My father declared that I did not deserve a college education and that I would stay in the local farm community and get some mundane job as a secretary at a local business. The very thought of doing that drained the life out of me. History records many instances of people who attempted to live the life someone else, usually a well meaning parent, designed for them. Rarely did that lead to a successful and fulfilling life for the child.

This is your life. This is the only life you will have on this earth. You have the right and duty to design the life you desire to live, create the plan to make that goal a reality and take the massive action necessary to implement that plan. IF YOU DO NOT DESIGN THE PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE, BY DEFAULT SOMEONE ELSE WILL DESIGN IT. Who do you believe will do a better job of designing the life you truly choose to live? You or someone else?

Jim Rohn, noted business philosopher asks what you think someone else has designed for you and answers the question. “Not much.” Are you willing to settle for “not much” for your life? I am not. Refer back to Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Walt Disney and Jim Rohn. Each one of these men created an incredible empire for themselves by following a simple formula. They dreamed a massive goal, visualized that goal completed, designed a plan to bring that goal into reality and took the necessary massive action to achieve.

Successful business people all follow exactly the same simple formula. Business principles remain consistent throughout the centuries. Whether you choose a successful small business or a gigantic corporation, the business principles are identical. The only difference between where you are right now and where these financial giants are at the peak of their careers is the dream, the plan and the massive action.

You have more opportunities right now with the online business potential than ever before in history. Success comes to those who dream big and take massive action.

Creating a Vision

In “The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity” Catherine Ponder reminds us of the need to visualize your success. The success steps in this process are easy to do, but as Jim Rohn, noted business philosopher reminds us, they are also easy not to do.

Step 1. Be very clear on exactly what it is that you desire to achieve. Know the precise goal to be reached. Know the exact time you intend to reach that goal. Know the tangible sign that you have reached that goal. For instance, if you are seeking a business goal, be precise about the award you will receive, the amount of money you will have earned or the number of sales. Your goal may be to make gross commissions of $10,000 in a single month. Set a specific date by which you will accomplish that goal. Set the time frame short enough to be a stretch for you and just long enough to be possible.

Step 2. How will you feel when you reach that goal? How will your life change by reaching that goal? Unless this is something which lights your soul on fire and really excites you, the goal is not big enough. Your goal should be something you are truly passionate about achieving. If it isn’t much different than the life you are leading now, you will not be motivated to make it happen. Unless you feel passionate about the result, you will remain exactly as you are now.

Step 3. The more clearly you see every detail of that goal accomplishment, the more likely you are to reach it. See it in living color. Visualize every detail of the setting. Hear the sounds. Touch the physical reward; hold it in your hands and feel the texture, the weight and the temperature. Hear the sounds all around you. Smell the scent in the air. Taste the food or beverages of the celebration. When you experience everything fully with all five senses and feel the feelings, you are well on your way to success.

Step 4. Repeat this process daily and more than once a day is encouraged. The more you mentally and emotionally step into the picture and actually live it as if it is happening at that precise moment, the more you bring it into your reality.

Step 5. Create a positive affirmation which you repeat aloud, repeat silently or write out several times every day. This keeps your goal fresh and current in your conscious and subconscious.

Some have even chosen to create a vision board with pictures and words to depict the entire goal and celebration. Any one of these is good but together they are excellent.

This technique has been used with extreme success for centuries. Get clear on what you truly desire. Set a time frame to achieve it. Visualize your success in living color with all five senses. Take the actions to move yourself forward. Know your success is assured.

Have a prosperous day.

Change is Unavoidable

Every one of us encounters change in some manner every day. There are basically 2 ways that most people handle change – fight or flight.

You may choose to stand your ground and wage a battle – fight. Take the example of the termination of your employment. Many companies are downsizing right now or moving their offices off shore or even more permanent, closing their doors. If they are downsizing, you may choose to present your views on why they should retain your services. If they are moving off shore, you could possibly transfer to another department or another location. If the company is closing down all operations, then staging a plea for the retention of your services is futile. No company equals no job opportunity there.

You could choose to flee from reality and deny the existence of the pink slip, but that is naïve and non-productive. You could race to the unemployment office. You could go home and lick your wounds and feel sorry for yourself. None of these will bring any immediate positive result.

There is a third option which is totally positive, productive and perhaps even inspiring. You can embrace the opportunity.

Look seriously and objectively at your recent, but now past, career. Ask yourself some truly insightful questions.

What did you enjoy most about your job?

What did you enjoy least about your job?

If you could change something about the job, what 2 or 3 things would you change?

If time, training and money were not an issue, what would you truly enjoy doing for a living?

Yes, I know, money seems like an issue at the moment. Just for a few minutes, let’s pretend that money is not a factor. Dream a little. What would you really like to be doing? When Jim Rohn was 25, he told his mentor that he did not have any money. Jim’s mentor told him that was not a problem. All this time, Jim had thought not having money was the problem. The problem was lack of an idea to create money.

Think about your current situation. When you embrace change, you create the ideas where you not only earn money but enjoy your life in the process.

Now you know that you have three choices to deal with change – fight, flight or embrace change. My personal vote is to embrace change. Enjoy the full benefits life has ready to offer you.

Slight Edge

Jeff Olson recorded a cd about “The Slight Edge.” This audio clarifies the fine line between success and a mediocre life. The good news is that it really is a slight edge. You may be closer than you think to achieving your goals and dreams.

For instance, he spoke about a nice shoe shine lady in the airport who read a great many books. Reading is excellent. Every great leader recommends reading. Brian Tracy and Dennis Waitley recommend reading for a minimum of thirty minutes per day. Jim Rohn, noted business philosopher recommends reading a book a week. In fact, one of Jim’s weekend seminars teaches how to read a book a day. Every great leader is a reader.

So what is the problem for the nice show shine lady? She was reading romance novels. Nothing is wrong with romance; I am an absolute romantic. Romance novels do not enhance the intellect or provide inspiration or even motivation to succeed in business. What if that stack of dog-eared books included “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, “The Richest Man in Babylon” by George S. Clason, “The Travelers Gift” by Andy Andrews, “The Prosperity Secrets of the Ages” by Catherine Ponder or “The Seven Habits of Highly Successful People” by Steven Covey? Reading is critical to success but it is not just reading but which books you choose to read.

Your mind is a fertile garden which can be planted with the seeds of greatness or weeds of mindless chatter. It is a slight edge. In many cases, THE slight edge.

Another slight edge revolves around your daily habits. How much time do you spend watching television? Silly situation comedy shows may be fun but what do they do for your mind? How much time do you spend every day watching CNN, which I refer to as constantly negative news? Have you ever noticed that most news stations give you negative news, then a commercial for an anti-depressant, more negative news and another commercial for another anti-depressant? Why not eliminate the negative? What are you planting in that fertile soil of your mind? Are you planting positive thoughts and inspiration or negative thoughts and empty time fillers?

I’m not saying that you should not be informed about world and local events, but filter the essential from the un-necessary negative. I have televisions in my home; however, I probably have not had them on a total of ten hours in a year. My time is spent with good books, educational and inspirational cds and masterminding with leaders.

The slight edge makes all the difference. Start by committing to reading at least 30 minutes per day or at least 10 pages per day. Focus on reading growth-oriented information which will inspire, inform or encourage you. Spend your free time filling your mind with positive thoughts rather than negative. It is imperative that the last 30 minutes before sleep and the first 30 minutes after you awaken be filled with positive thoughts and information.

Success involves a slight edge. Who knows, this may be the slight edge which turns your life from ordinary to exceptional.

Head Games

Sometimes we unintentionally get in our own way of success. We allow the “monkey chatter” to instill doubts and hesitation. Our friends, family and co-workers add to that monkey chatter weakening our resolve to succeed.

I love my family dearly; however, they are not always on exactly the same success track as I have laid out for myself. For some strange reason because I have been successful in the past and I am 65, they seem to think I should retire and stay retired. Personally, I love stimulating conversations and new ventures to entice my mind to grow. The rocking chair and mindless coffee club chit chat is totally unappealing to me.

Co-workers who are set in the employee mindset simply do not understand that drive deep in your soul to create and grow your own business. If they are stuck in the “a job means security and a regular paycheck’ mentality, they resist stepping out of that comfort zone. Paul Zane Pilzer, economic adviser to 2 presidents declares that having a job is far more risk, especially in the current economy, than owning your own business. This is the age and time of the entrepreneur. More fortune 500 companies started during an economic downturn than at any other time in history. A job is risky. You have no control over how long it will exist or your future income.

Jim Rohn, noted business philosopher, reminds us that in order for things to change, we must change. In order for us to receive more, we must become more. Is that always easy, absolutely not. Is it worth the nervous butterflies right now in order to achieve your goals for the future? Speaking from personal experience – absolutely YES. I am psychologically unemployable. I am an entrepreneur. I seriously tried to be a good employee several times in my life and found that I was pushing at the corners and stretching the walls of the box that employment placed around me. I do not belong in a cubicle. I do not thrive in an atmosphere where I am being told what to do and when to do it. Do you relate to that feeling?

Entrepreneurs have a different mindset than employees. We just do. That is not a bad thing. In fact, that exact mindset is what created America in the first place. Our forefathers came to this country to remove themselves from control and build their businesses. When they did not get the freedom they wanted, they rebelled. That very act of standing up for their creative entrepreneurial desires created a great country and freedom for all of us.

Listen to your feelings and your instincts and dare to create the life you deserve. Jim Rohn, also said there are people you can spend an hour with, but not a day or a day but not a week. Respect your family, friends and co-workers but follow your heart and passion. Get in touch with your deep desires for your future. Put a gag on the monkey chatter and refuse to listen to it. You deserve succe4ss. You deserve to have it all.

Life is to be lived, loved and enjoyed. Why condemn yourself to mediocrity when you can step out of your comfort zone and reach for the moon. If you miss the moon and hit the stars, you are still ahead of being stuck in a mud puddle where you are miserable.

My mission is to improve the lives of everyone I touch – personally, professionally and financially. Reach for your dreams. I did and I am. I love my life. My desire is that you love your life as well.

Actions Speak

You can make money or you can make excuses but rarely, if ever, can you make both at the same time.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of people make excuses to explain why they did not succeed. It is far too common throughout the world for the unsuccessful to be excuse-makers. People choose to attempt to justify their action or inaction with words. The bottom line is that actions speak with such volume that the words can not be heard. Jim Rohn, noted business philosopher, said that “if your neighbor’s pasture is greener than yours, then perhaps theirs is getting better care.” It does come down to the actions.

If you do well, then you have a right to accept the rewards with grace and pleasure. However, if you did not do well, then accept the results without grumbling. Even worse than griping and grumbling is blaming someone else. It is your result and therefore your responsibility. If that is a bitter pill to swallow then perhaps a strong dose of self-examination and diligent work will improve the outcome next time.

Jim Rohn reminds us that we must become good at one of two things: planting in the Spring or begging in the Fall. Personally I have found that planting, working, in the Spring and Summer make the Fall a much more pleasant experience. Even if it is not fun, I have spent many hours of intense self-examination to determine not only what went right but what could be done to make it even better. The other side of that coin is really taking a serious microscopic look at what did not go well and resolving to find a way to make it better. Just the resolve is not enough, the absolute action must follow. Analyze, take action, re-examine and take more positive action. If it is not moving me toward my goals, then it is probably time for a course correction.

As a home based business owner, I hear all kinds of excuses every day. It is the fault of the stock market, or the fault of their company, or the crackdown by Google. Ronnie Hawkins, David Foster, and many other highly successful entrepreneurs learned that when business takes a turn in another direction, simply adjust and attack from a different direction yourself. The point is that they did not sit and “poor me.” They took action to turn the situation around.

Having your own business, especially a home based business, requires you to be constantly alert and taking action. This is not a time to sit back and rely on yesterday’s methods and technology. Be creative, attack from a new direction. Conduct the intense self-examination, take responsibility and take positive action.

Actions speak with volume while excuses whimper.

Time For Action, Not Excuses

Yesterday we talked about “no excuses.” Life happens to all of us. It is simply a fact. None of us have the perfect life where everything is always wonderful.

It isn’t what happens to us in our life that counts; it is how we respond to it. Life is 10 percent what happens to us and 90% our response to it. It isn’t even totally what happens to us but the way we interpret the events. Sometimes as we look back on a situation, what we thought and felt at the time was more the story we told ourselves than what actually happened. Food for thought – right?

Every time you go to a web page, you are seeking something. You were seeking something by coming to my blog right now. Have you found it yet? The good news is that as long as you are at least seeking, you have the potential of finding. When you give up seeking and give up on life, it gives up on you too. Keep reading and seeking and you will find. If you did a bit deeper into my blog, you may find exactly what you are searching for to enhance your life. If you want to talk to me personally, email me at ResultsForLife@gmail.com. I am here to help.

In this economy the help so many seem to be seeking is making more money. Money helps, absolutely, but it is more than money. It is about your life. Money is not the end-all-be-all; it is what that money brings to you and your life that really matters. Time freedom. Control of your future. Time to not only provide for yourself and your future but also for the future of those you care about. Time to truly enjoy your life.

What is holding you back from taking the next step to make your dreams come true? The question is not IF you want a better life, but HOW BADLY do you want to improve your life?

Nothing new and good happens by staying exactly where you are and have been. Improving your life requires stepping out of your comfort zone and stretching yourself.

Are you ready for success? Jim Rohn reminds us that “For things to change, WE must change.” For the circumstances in your life to get better, YOU must get better.

Successful people in any and all aspects of life take action. Successful people do not make excuses or blame others or throw up their hands and give up. They find another way to make it happen for themselves.

There is a quote I have on my desk which I love and I’ll paraphrase due to one word in the actual quote which may not be appropriate for all audiences. All things come to the one who waits, providing he prays and works very hard while he waits.

It is your future. It is your choice.
