Happiness

What is happiness? What makes you truly happy? Some people think it is winning the lottery or some other external event. Far too many people seem to think that it is up to their spouse or parents or someone else to make them happy.

Bottom line. You are responsible for your own happiness. Being happy is a decision you make.

There is a story about a 90 year old, nearly blind lady. When she lost her husband, it became necessary for her to move into an assisted living home. Every morning she was perfectly dressed with her hair styled and make-up perfectly applied. When she arrived at her new home, her room want not ready yet. She waited patiently. When her room was finally ready, she exclaimed, "I love it." The staff said but you haven't seen the lace curtains at the windows or the soft lacy comforter on your bed yet. She replied, "my happiness does not depend on how the room is arranged or furnished. Happiness is something you make up your mind about in advance."

We can all learn a lesson from her.

How committed are you in your own mind to be happy? Are you taking responsibility for your own happiness? Happiness lies squarely in your own attitude and mindset.

Humans are the only living creatures who have total control of their own mind.

Napoleon Hill wrote about the 2 sealed envelopes we bring with us at birth.

In the first is:
1. Sound health
2. Peace of mind
3. A labor of love of your own choice
4. Freedom from fear and worry
5, A positive mental attitude
6. Material riches of your own choice and quantity.

In the second envelope is:
1. Ill health
2. Fear and worry
3. Indecision and doubt
4. Frustration and discouragement through our life
5. Poverty and want
6. And a whole flock of evils consisting of envy, greed, jealousy, anger, hatred and superstition

You may have the contents of the first envelope by taking control of your own mind. If you do not take control of your own mind, you will receive envelope two.

The good news is that happiness is also a benefit of taking control of your own mind. Further good news is that all you have to do is make a conscious decision and stick to it and you can change from envelope two to envelope one. it is a simple decision to take charge of your own mind and life.
